ferrets

thought i would give a little update on my children and stuff for those who don't follow my instergram/their insterfram (chargay/ferretchildren)

soo basicly i was hoping to get them fixed this week as they can get fixed at 4 months old BUT. i just called up the animal trust that i have them registers at and they will only neater them at 6 months old. so another whole 2 months to wait, i had a look at other vets and they are all the same too. the only reason i was really hoping to get them done asap is because i had that one person telling me im neglecting my ferrets and they will die because i refuse to get them done. which i was going to do anyway but they were to young. what people dont understand that in the us when you go buy a ferret at a store they are already fixed and de-scented when you buy them. here you rarely see a ferret in pet shop (i have never ever seen one) and they are not fixed. the usual way to get hold of a ferret is from a breeder and they dont fix them before selling because 1) its too much money 2) vets wont fix them until 6 months old. and for the part of them killing each other, they get along really well, they play right and wrestle but are not at all agressive to one another so im sure they will be just fine for another 2 months and if they do get into a scrap i got their new hutch so i can separate them. although i think they will do just fine without getting fixed i think its definetly going to be worth it as it will improve their smell and behavior.

now al ittle thing about the ferrets themselves. xp

when i first got him he was very very hyper, naughty and very nippy as they had only been handled 3 days before i got them. since then soo much has changed and nip training worked really well and he has changed to be really sweet and quiet. he will bite when playing but just a hiss and he knows to stop (it does not hurt one bit) he likes to adventure around my house on his own or with casper and my dog for some reason always follows him around. finn is definitely the most snugly when he has just woken up and enjoys a good neck rub.

when i first got casper he was super quiet and he nipped alittle but didnt have much interest in playing. but then it all changed. casper is very very wild, he will chase you, climb up your legs, attack your feet , all in play but it can be pretty annoying. sadly nip training isnt going as good with him, scruffing works on occasions but he usually thinks its play. i had a talk with some other ferret owners and they suggested putting him in a time out when he gets too bitey. his bites dont hurt as he is just inviting you to play but i know my mum is getting annoyed by him as he has been biting her feet every time i let them roam the house.he also attacks my dog by launching on her and riding on her back xp she does not mind and plays with them. hopefuly getting him fixed and afew more weeks of nip training and time outs he will calm down.
